Capsule Geology

The KL 1 occurrence is located on a southwest-facing slope, east of the Klawli River and approximately 4.5 kilometres southwest of the peak of 'Adade Yus Mountain.

Regionally, the area is underlain by maroon and green plagioclase ± hornblende porphyritic volcanic flows of the Lower Jurassic Chuchi Lake Formation of the Middle Triassic to Lower Jurassic Takla Group. Lower Jurassic rocks of the Hogem Intrusive Complex outcrop to the south and west.

Locally, a rusty (oxidized) zone is hosted by a bleached and siliceous basalt with disseminated pyrite. The oxidized zone is approximately 0.85 metre wide and has been traced in outcrop for 3 metres.

Another zone of mineralization, located on the northeast slope of a moderate hill, located approximately 600 metres northeast of the previous zone, comprises a weakly propylitic-altered plagioclase (plus lesser augite) hornblende porphyry with epidote-calcite fractures and malachite staining.

In 1993, a 1 metre continuous chip sample (93N7LGR042) from the first zone of mineralization assayed 1.87 grams per tonne gold, whereas a grab sample (93N7LGR023) from the second (northeastern) zone of mineralization assayed 0.105 gram per tonne gold, 6.6 grams per tonne silver and 0.884 per cent copper (Assessment Report 23508).

In 1994, a lone drillhole (94-06) was completed to test an induced polarization anomaly associated with the second (northeastern) zone of mineralization and intersected a plagioclase ± augite porphyry flow with disseminations, clots and stringers of pyrite and minor chalcopyrite with variable chlorite ± epidote and hematite alteration yielding up to 0.115 gram per tonne gold and 0.026 per cent copper over 3.0 metres (22 to 25 metres down hole; Assessment Report 23640).

Work History

The area has been explored in conjunction with the nearby Col (MINFILE 093N 101) occurrence to the south and the Klawli (MINFILE 093N 032) occurrence to the north, and a complete exploration history of the area can be found there.
